Let’s keep Positive!

TIPS FOR MAINTAINING GOOD MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH THE WINTER LOCKDOWN

As the UK continues through the winter lockdown, and as gyms and spa and health club remain closed, it’s now even more important to address your wellbeing in these darker months. Therefore we have included some tips below on how to stay positive during lockdown 3.0!

FIND WAYS TO CONNECT WITH OTHERS... DIGITALLY

Often one of the most daunting elements of this lockdown is feeling isolated and losing connection with friends or family you are no longer able to see. If you cant meet up in person, make some plans to do group video chats.

Try to give them some structure, from playing a round of charades or setting up a quiz.

In case, you are not sure how to set this up, we’d recommend using on Zoom on your laptop / iPad or if you are using your phone WhatsApp or Facetime Apps both have easy to use video call functions.

CHECKING IN ON NEIGHBOURS, FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Doing good for others has strong mental health benefits and really does give us that feel-good feeling. Whether it’s an elderly neighbour you think might want some help or company, or checking on an old friend who you have lost contact with. Give it a go and see the positive effects it can have first hand.

DAILY EXERCISE

On rain-free days we recommend going outdoors a walk or a run, take advantage and try and get as much natural light as possible.

Try and get a routine going weather its in the morning, lunch or evening to make time for some exercise. There are plenty of online home-workouts available; we will be hosting some more LIVE Instagram workouts that you are invited to take part in and will help if you are struggling with ideas or just want that extra bit of motivation.

  1. When faced with a challenging situation before accepting defeat practice first asking yourself these questions: Can I adapt? Is there a solution? Would someone I know be able to help?
  2. Try writing three things a day to be grateful for as soon as you wake up, these could be as small or as large as you would like. Starting the day like this gets you in a positive head-space first and should help set the tone for the rest of the day!
  3. Set some goals. We will all be faced with different challenges but starting the period out by setting some new goals or redefining some existing ones can help boost your self-esteem. Be ambitious with your long-term goals, and realistic with your daily ones!

From us at The Lab we hope these tips will help, and look forward to welcoming you back in the not-to-distant future!
