Take care of your skin this winter!

Winter is in full flow and together with any additional stresses we may have, the harsh weather can be damaging to your skin. There are many products on the market and sometimes it can be hard to differentiate the good from the bad. We’ve put together 7 simple tips to follow in your daily routine to keep your skin nourished and feeling good.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

With the cold weather outside, it’s easy to forget to drink as much water. The cold weather will reduce the skin's moisture so it's important to keep well hydrated. Try taking a reusable bottle with you so you can take regular sips throughout the day.

CHOOSING A CLEANSER

For dry and cracked skins, it’s best to avoid cleansers with chemicals such as alcohols and heavy fragrances – try looking for crème based cleansers to help keep the moisture in, whilst still removing the day’s dirt that may have built up throughout the day.

EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE!

Even if you have itchy or dry skin, there are still benefits to exfoliate during the winter. Exfoliating helps remove dry and dead skin cells and also helps to regenerate new ones. Again try and stick to more natural scrubs.

PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS

On top of carrying a lip-balm or two, you’ll want to protect your skin against the harsher winter weather. Wrap up with a scarf, hat and gloves to avoid dry and painful skin.

SUNSCREEN IS FOR WINTER TOO!

We often apply sunscreen automatically during the summer months but often neglect to do the same during the winter. In the winter months our skin can still get damaged by harmful UV's, so apply appropriate protection to your face, neck and hands to protect your skin all year round

KEEP YOUR SHOWERS SHORT AND SWEET

As tempting as a long hot shower can be, this will not only de-hydrate your skin but may also remove your bodies natural oils. If you walk out the shower and you’re skin is red and itchy, it’s a sign you’ve probably spent too long and the water is a bit too hot!

GET THAT MOISTURISER ON QUICK!

Choose your facial moisturiser and body lotion carefully. We’d recommend focusing on oil-based products rather than water as they do a better job at locking in hydrating oils and moisture in your skin. As soon as you wash, get the lotion on straight away to keep in as much of the moisture as possible.

We hope these tips help with your skin routine this winter. And if you want to give your skin the extra pamper it deserves, take a look at some of the treatments we have on offer at our spa.
